Sterna is a travel planner. To plan and organise your trips it has to handle some of your information. This page says exactly what, why, and with whom — in plain words. Sterna has no ads, no tracking and never sells data.
Who we are
Sterna is made by Dyrland Data & AI, Norway (the data controller). Contact: support@getsterna.app.
What Sterna stores
- Your account — a random identifier created on first launch. If you choose Sign in with Apple, the Apple user identifier (and your name if you share it).
- Your trips — destinations, dates, travellers' first names, plan items, booking references, prices, checklists and expenses that you or the concierge add.
- Documents — tickets, vouchers and confirmations you share, forward or import, and the codes read from them.
- Concierge conversations — what you ask and what Sterna answers, and short notes about your travel preferences so it can remember them next time (you can ask it to forget).
- Device token — to send notifications you allow.
- How you use the concierge — when you send a message or import a booking, which AI model answered, how long the message was (never what it said), whether it went through, and what it cost. This runs your monthly allowance and helps us price and improve Sterna. It is deleted with your account.
Who helps us run Sterna
- Cloudflare — hosting, database, document storage, and email routing for your travel address.
- Anthropic — the Claude models that power the concierge, read booking confirmations and write a trip's short introduction. They process the content of your requests, the trip you ask about and the documents you import, under terms that do not allow using it to train their models. Sterna sends Anthropic nothing until you allow it in the app, which it asks the first time you use the concierge or import a booking; you can turn it off again under You.
- Apple — Sign in with Apple and push notifications.
- Weather and currency — place coordinates are sent to our weather provider to fetch forecasts; exchange rates come from the European Central Bank's public reference rates. No personal data is sent with either.
Trips you share
If you invite someone to a trip, everyone on it sees and can change that trip — its plans, booking references, documents, checklist, expenses and concierge conversation — and sees each other's names. Nothing else in your account is shared. The person who made the trip can remove people or turn the invite link off; anyone else can leave it at any time.
Gmail (optional)
If you connect Gmail, Sterna asks Google for read-only access. The connection token is stored only on your iPhone. Sterna searches your mailbox for travel confirmations (flights, stays, cars, tickets) and sends only those messages to our servers so they can be read into your trips. Sterna does not read other mail, does not store your mailbox, and never uses Gmail data for advertising or to train AI models. Sterna's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can disconnect at any time in Sterna → You → Mail, or at myaccount.google.com.
How long we keep it
For as long as you use Sterna. Delete a trip and it's gone; delete your account (You → Delete account) and every trip, document, conversation and memory is erased from our systems within 30 days.
Your rights
You can see, export, correct or delete your data at any time, and complain to Datatilsynet (the Norwegian Data Protection Authority). Write to us and we'll help within 30 days.
